A state that is located in the southeastern portion of the US, is known as Florida. Its capital is Tallahassee and Miami is considered the largest metro area.
Given the nicknamed, the “Sunshine State”, its usually warm climate, also considered subtropical, boasts of true humid and steamy climate in the farther southern portion in the nearby Key West.
Florida is also considered the fourth most densely inhabited state in the US, and also ranks second as the most populous state in the South, after Texas.
For its brief history, Florida is the oldest existing European place-name, by Juan Ponce de León, who was a Spanish conquistador, christening Florida in honor of his discovery of the land in 1513. It was during the season of Easter, and then during the Pascua Florida, which is a Spanish term for “Flowery Easter” season, hence, coming up with the name derived for the place’s look and manifestation as a “flowered land.”
With this in mind, the orange blossom was chosen as the State Flower, and it is considered one of the most aromatic and sweet-smelling flowers of the state.
